Ugly but amazing: serpentinization, energy, and life (and new frontiers from the deep Earth and other planetary bodies)
Dr. Alberto Vitale Brovarone
Serpentinization is versatile process that has been gathering geologists, geochemists and (astro)biologists over the last 30 years, and is now considered as among the most important processes in the Earth’s history. Most people knows what serpentinization is, but generally does not know why it is so important. This seminars aims at giving a general introduction on why serpentinization is so important, as well as an overview of my contribution to the topic, especially at mid-ocean ridges and subduction zones. Last, the role of serpentinization in future planetary ventures will be also introduced, shortly.
